Everyone should feel safe in their own home. Smoke alarms technology has improved greatly in the last few years & O’Neil are known experts in this area. All our electricians have been on the relevant training courses & as a result are one of the few local companies that are officially registered as an AICO expert installer of smoke alarms/LD2 Landlord alarm system. Being official allows us to issue certificates to prove the house complies with the new Scottish Government fire safety laws. When it comes down to important safety work such as Smoke alarms, we have the electricians with the correct training & the company has the correct accreditation so you know you the work will be safe & compliant.

We provide this service to Landlords all over Ayrshire & can provide compliant smoke alarms system that meeting the new Scottish Government laws to your properties & importantly we can provide you with a certificate to prove you are compliant, so you don’t have to do it yourself & risk not being compliant.

Why are smoke alarms changing?

In the aftermath of the tragic events at Grenfell Tower, London, the Scottish Government embarked on a in depth review of their fire safety regulations, these new laws were meant to come into effect in Feb 2021 but due to COV-19 they have been moved to 2022. However, this date the latest the work can be carried out & with most private houses not having this type of system in place the closer we get to the date the harder it could be to find someone accredited to carry out the work correctly.    https://www.aico.co.uk/scottish-legislation/

Every type of property must abide by these new regulations, and it is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure the property is correctly protected against smoke and fire.

All alarms need to be mounted on the ceiling and linked together. Also, carbon monoxide detectors are required if the property contains a carbon-fuelled appliance such as an open fire, Gas Boiler or Gas or stoves.

One smoke alarm must be installed in the room which is used most often as the general living area during daytime.

One smoke alarm must be installed in each circulation space (hallways, landings etc.).

One heat alarm pad must be installed in every kitchen in the property.

All smoke alarms in a property must be interlinked. Even if all your smoke alarms are otherwise compliant, failing to ensure they are interlinked will leave you on the wrong side of these new law.

Proof of compliance with these new regulations will be documented in home reports, once these regulations come into force in February 2022. Local authorities will use their powers to ensure all properties are compliant.
